Bo Morton has been developing and writing grant proposals for federal, state and private funding for almost 20 years. She started writing grant proposals as director of a large adult education program serving the entire county to bring new resources for the chronically underfunded program. Subsequently, she spent more than 10 years as Director of Grants Development and Management at a large urban community college in the Los Angeles area, where she has garnered over 75 million dollars in grants from public and private sources. Ms. Morton has developed proposals for the US federal agency grants as well as grants from the US and international private and corporate foundations and multilateral organizations.
Ms. Morton has a master’s degree in linguistics and spent 17 years teaching English as a Foreign/Second Language and managing language programs hence her interest in and commitment to international education. She secured 13 grants for international education projects for her college during her 10-tear tenure. She has also assisted organizations in the U.S. and internationally with project development and proposal writing. She has developed partnerships and worked with educational institutions in many countries, including Australia, Italy, Spain, Ukraine, Poland, Mexico, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Vietnam, and Lebanon.
In 2016, she received the Grant Writer of the Year award from McAllister and Quinn.
M&Q Staff on Bo's Work:
"Bo has many years of experience working with institutions of higher education in writing for funding through federal agencies. She keeps the client organized and moving forward with communicating their good ideas. The clients always appreciate having a draft of the application early in the writing process to document their ideas and questions that need to be answered. I always have a pleasant experience in working with Bo." Susan Faulkner, Executive Director, Office of Grants Services
"The combination of Bo's depth of knowledge and her methodical approach to proposal development make her a huge asset to any project she is a part of. Bo is able to create a structure that allows the process to be collaborative and engaged, while keeping clients organized and focused. "
Suzanna Vaughan, Director of Grants and Federal Affairs
"Bo is one of the best grant and resource managers that I have ever met. She constantly is searching for new sources of revenue for our projects. She is incredibly talented and tenacious in her ability to find revenue sources that may be grants, governmental contracts or foundation funds. " John Means, Associate Chancellor, Kern CCD
"Ms. Morton has an extraordinary flair for researching, brainstorming and translating into workable projects the most creative ideas and opportunities. Generous and extremely effective with her help, Ms. Morton has a remarkable ability to see talent and then foster and encourage its use and development. She encourages creative thinking and initiative in those with whom she collaborates, somehow managing to inspire in others the same enthusiasm for bringing the world into the classroom that she herself clearly feels. She is definitely a “people” person, but she possesses a skill that one doesn’t always find in even the most engaging of colleagues – the ability to keep conversations focused and productive even as she inspires." Dr. Elizabeth Shadish, Professor, El Camino College
